Description
The illustrated A version of the Physiologus is on folio 140r-157v.
The first twelve chapters are illustrated with fifteen drawings with red and green highlights (caladrius has two, the ant has three). The illustrations follow the chapter they illustrate; captions on some of the images make it clear what they represent. Unlike most bestiary illustrations, these also show the text's moralization in some form. Spaces left for illustrations after folio 146v remain unfilled.
On folio 142r the artist has mistakenly drawn an illustration of a siren where the text describes the sawfish (serra). The text for the siren, with its own illustration, is on folio 146r.
At the end of the Physiologus section there is an account of the lion and the panther (folio 157v, not illustrated), apparently not part of the Physiologus text, which does not include the panther..
Note: there are two folios marked 146. The second one (between folio 146 and 147) is here designated 146².
Alternate shelfmark: Ms. 10074.
