Primi appunti sull’autore del ‘Fiore di virtù’
Medioevo romanzo, Volume XLVII - 1, 2023, page 186-196
Since the end of the 19th century, the author of the Fiore di virtù tended to be identified with Tommaso Gozzadini (a Bolognese monk whose name is given back to us by the manuscript Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, Gaddi 115), but this proposal doesn’t rest on solid evidence, and the direct re-examination of the manuscript contributes to undermine it further. At the same time, a study of the earliest manuscripts regarding explicit or implicit attributions (through subscription or through the depiction of the author in the initial miniature) allows us to strengthen Maria Corti’s hypothesis that the author was a layman. Finally, we focus on the explicit of the manuscript Biblioteca Civica Bertoliana, MS. 495 (among the oldest), of which we attempt to offer a literal explanation and a more general interpretation; and, in doing so, we propose a new hypothesis which always concerns Bologna. - [Abstract]
