Description
The illustrated Bestiaire of Guillaume le Clerc is on folios 1r-72v. This is the copy of the Bestiaire designated B by Reinsch.
Each beast is illustrated with a colored drawing; the animals sometimes escape from their frames into the margin. A common pattern is an allegorical or biblical illustration followed by a related beast illustration. Many of the illustrations have a rubric caption. The 37 illustrations are simple but lively and engaging, and usually show the animal's common attributes. They are mostly colored with a blue, green and brown wash.
