The illustrated Bestiaire of Guillaume le Clerc is on folios 1r-72v. Each beast is illustrated with a colored drawing; the animals sometimes escape from their frames into the margin. A common pattern is an allegorical or biblical illustration followed by a related beast illustration. Many of the illustrations have a rubric caption. Each chapter starts with a large filligreed initial. |
