The Bestiaire d'amour (Bestiary of Love) by Richard de Fournival. Written and illuminated in northern Italy, probably Lombardy. Includes the texts: Bestiaire d'amour (f. 2r-22v); a continuation of the bestiary, by Richard de Fournival, with 20 further animals and a different ending (f.22v-29v); extract from his Livre de li arriere bans (f.30r-32v). The additional 20 animal examples following the standard Bestiaire d'amour is unusual; it occurs in one other manuscript, Ashb. 50 in the Laurentian Library in Florence. 3 large (2-column, half-page) drawings; 112 smaller drawings in the text; 3 historiated initials. |
